A tragic plane crash occurred in Ahmedabad on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the death of over 260 people. Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787 aircraft, was flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick when it crashed shortly after takeoff.
The plane lost control and fell near the B.J. Medical College hostel at around 1:38 PM. There were 242 people on board—230 passengers and 12 crew. Sadly, 241 of them died. Several students and staff on the ground were also killed.
Only one passenger, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, survived by jumping from the emergency exit. Firefighters and rescue teams arrived quickly, but the damage was massive.
After the tragedy, the Tata Group, the parent company of Air India, announced ₹1 crore compensation for the families of each deceased person. They also committed to covering full medical treatment for the injured and taking full responsibility of their families.
